God Is Always With Us

Rainbow in the sky near a palm tree

Life can be scary and unpredictable at times. We plan our day, we plan our week, we even plan the hours within our day. It’s amazing to me how much life can change at the drop of a dime.

You are on your way home from work, focused on all the things you have planned and need to get done and suddenly there is a medical scare with a family member or a call from a family friend who has just told you they are getting a divorce. What we deem so important in our day suddenly seems so trivial. We start to feel heavy hearted, filled with worry, dread and anxiety.  Knowing our faith in our head, but having a hard time feeling it in our hearts. In those moments it can be so hard to find comfort.

Well, the other day I was driving home with my children carrying about our day, I must have been a bit quieter than my normal chatty self, showing some level of worry or stress, when suddenly my son said, “Look mom, over there, there is a rainbow. It’s so faint, isn’t it? Do you see it?”  I looked over, and there it was, I spotted it, but it was ever so light. I said, “I do see it.” He said, “Mom, that’s God telling us that He is always there, even when we are scared, and just like its hard to see that rainbow, God knows it’s hard for us to see Him.”

Surprisingly at the same time we just so happened to be listening to a Christian radio station, whose song at the time was repeating this chorus, “He is with us, He is with us, Always, Always.” I immediately smiled and thought how right he was – I guess we all need a little reminder a times. I felt a sense of warmth come over me feeling God’s presence, realizing that yes, even amidst the hardest of times He truly is always with us and I never have to stay worried for long.

“I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8
