Storms of Life

Have you ever pulled up a stream of texts from someone you haven’t spoken to in a while? What did your conversation look like at that time? How has your life changed since then? Are your worries today, the same as they were then? It’s amazing how God works in our life over time to bring us healing, perspective and peace about the things that are plaguing us in the moment.

The other day, I pulled up a stream of texts from someone I hadn’t spoken to in about 6 months. At the time, I was asking her to pray for my dad as it was the night before a major 14-hour surgery to help him battle cancer. I could hear the worry in my voice as I read my message, the uncertainty, the fear of the “What if’s,” but then I paused for a moment and felt an immense sense of gratitude come over me as I connected to the realization that, “wow, we are not there anymore, we are beyond that and God pulled us through.” Dad, although still battling cancer, has come through his surgery and is at home living life again.

Looking back, it was so hard to imagine life beyond that point. It was as though life had stopped.  This is so common though, isn’t it? If I look at life, my worries, the things that stress me, in time, I am always reminded of how God gets us through the storms. Life eventually finds a new normal, no matter what the storm. Either the problem gets fixed or our perspective toward the problem changes and we adapt to it. God is our healer and in all things, we must remember to “let go and let God,” work in our lives.

1 Peter 5:6-7 “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
